It's the 14th week of our placement, welcome back to our blog! With more meetings scheduled, we'll be ready to analyze and discuss our research findings with all of you. Visiting businesses within the Tri-County area has certainly been an adventure. We've crossed paths with University of Windsor Alumni members and have maintained great first impressions.
What is right and what is wrong to you?
This is a question that often comes up in the business world. We chose ethics as the word of the week because I encountered a situation where my behaviour was questioned. I scheduled a meeting with someone for our Industry Research Project, and which was supervised by my manager. However, the person who I surveyed did not want him to be there during the meeting. He believed that I should've warned him that someone else was going to be sitting in on the meeting. He questioned our behaviour as unethical.
From my point of view, my supervisor had accompanied us to watch me conduct the meeting, making sure I was asking the questions correctly and to give feedback afterwards. Paul was not there to sell them anything and had no intentions of intervening. However, the manager that we met with believed that he was being cornered into buying something. The meeting was booked with the sole purpose of conducting our Industry Research Project and gathering data to complete our analysis. Furthermore, I made it clear when scheduling the meeting that it was a partnership between Tri-County Copiers and the University of Windsor's Co-op Program. The Industry Research Project is for our learning experience and will help Tri-county Copiers gain knowledge about the local market and buying behaviour.
